Wednesday Knight’s Haul – 07.04.2012 – Independence Day

Happy Independence Day to and from my American friends.  So, nothing came in as a preorder today.  And I can’t help but find that ironic – that on America’s Independence Day, no independent comics that I preordered from Diamond Comic Distributors came into the store where I shop.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t order all of the indie comics that show their covers in the catalogue but I do order more than my fair share and doesn’t it just seem like an easy holiday for Diamond to tout about as a way to get customers to buy more indies?  I think it is and maybe I missed something in the catalogue, so we’ll not say anything harsh.  So, since nothing pre-ordered came in, I decided to check the shelves to see if I missed any trades or if there were any floppies to be had.

There were no new indie trades that looks brilliant or even shiny so I moved to the floppies pretty quickly.  I don’t generally order floppies cause I see them as kinda antiquated and misused as a format but I also see them as advertising for the trades.  I’ll come back to all of that convoluted craziness on another post.  But I do sometimes buy #1s of a new title to see if I might be interested in the trades.  Quickly, I realized there was nothing interest – just a couple uninteresting (to me of couse) older titles, some sketch covers and a new #1 form the Raping Watchmen line.  The only thing that stuck out to me was the second issue of Creator-Owned Heroes.

I’d preordered the first issue of Creator-Owned Heroes but it’s still in my huge stack of books to be read.  I preordered it cause I have a hankering for indie comic obviously but I’m also a fan of several of talents involved:  Phil Noto, Steve Niles, etc. and I was interested to see what they would do for indies.  The magazine (?) comes off as a couple pieces to ongoing stories with some interviews and articles/news/how-tos in the second half of the book.  As I said, I haven’t read it yet but it certainly bedazzles my indie-centric brain.

Here we are at the end of another Wednesday Knight’s Haul – Happy Independence Day.
