This week’s deliveries from the Diamond Previews gods was much better than last week‘s – there were actual, honest to goodness indie books.
The first one in the stack is American Vampire trade paperback #3. I just read #2 a week or so ago and I’ve been trying to figure out how to review it. I loved the first trade and found it very compelling but the second trade just did not give me the same wonderful mouthful-of-blood rush that the first one did. I still find it an interesting, relatively new take on the seemingly near-the-bottom of the barrel mythos but I’m not sure that I’m sold on the entire series, wherever it goes.
The next title on the stack, book 7 in the Wasteland series, well, I am (even though it’s taken forever for each of these books to come out) just giddy to see this book. The title is just plain smart. No, it’s intellectual with all of the plusses and minuses of the word. It can at times be plodding and dry (pun intended if you know the title) but at the same time, I feel smarter after I read each issue, let alone each trade paperback. So, needless to say, once I read this book I will be speaking with less monosyllabic words.
The last book for the night was a from-the-shelves surprise, The Milkman Murders. For whatever reason, I did not pre-order this one. But the cover stuck out to me on the shelves and I look forward to tearing open the plastic to see what I got surprises Mr. Joe Casey has in store for me.
Never enough said.
