BuyIndieComics.com has said it before, we are as a general notion big fans of the West Hollywood Book Fair. We’ve certainly seen more love at these shows from the audience than many of our friends and we appreciate that. However, this year’s book fair was a little rough around the edges – there was some confusion about arrival time, parking and offloading and the crowd was a little not there.
We’ll suck up the blame for not understanding the email about arrival time and offloading but the crowd was just lacking. Some if it was the heat – it was seriously a dog day afternoon and even in California, there’s nothing we can do about the weather. But there were two other major city events, a Triathlon and Carmageddon II - I just feel like these problems could have been foreseen – but hey, that’s life in the second biggest US city. Right?
Eventually, as the day cooled off, things got better. People started smiling, stepping closer to the booths and even buying things, let alone picking them up and looking at them. Something that was really cool is that we had several visitors come by the booth and tell us that they had either seen BuyIndieComics.com before or even seen Caffeine Dreams. It’s always pretty awesome and a little strange at the same time when a complete stranger comes up and says they like what you’re doing – but we love it. The other cool piece to this year’s West Hollywood Book Fair was having a chance to jaw with comic scribe, Josh Dysart and see him speak near the end of the day.
It’s hard to say that we are definitely headed back to the West Hollywood Book Fair next year but we shall see.
Never enough said.
