Inspired by 1 Corinthians 12:7 (“Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good”), Lightweightz is about eight teenagers who after discovering they have unique abilities, must now decide how they are going to use them. With Lightweightz I set out to tell a different kind of superhero story: One where each of the characters’ abilities would have direct implications for how they relate to others, and one that was told from a Christian worldview.
The Lightweightz saga will consist of at least three releases. The first two will be anthologies introducing readers to the characters, and the third will be a graphic novel (with the possibility of telling future stories). The first release, Lightweightz: The Anthology Part One was released in July 2012, and part two is slated for release in April.
Kayin the Precog
Focused and determined, Kayin has always been mature for her age. Believing that her ability to see the future is a gift from God, she’s determined to use her gift to help as many people as possible. But is she strong enough to handle what she sees?
Kayin visits her pastor to tell her that she’s afraid for her father, and after realizing she’s not ready to tell her about her ability, she decides to leave (Page 2).
Upon leaving, she reflects on what’s been happening lately with her parents, and how her ability fits in to things (Page 3).
As she continues reflecting, she gets a glimpse of the future and what it has in store for her parents. She begins to embrace her ability, believing that the reason why she’s able to see the future is so that she can change it (Page 4).
