The traditional story of the fairy tale princess, as it’s told to thousands of girls every night. This was exactly the sort of thing Princeless was build to rebel against.
Our first introduction to the heroine of Princeless, the rambunctious, no-nonsense Princess Adrienne. And of course, her mother, the lovely Queen Ashe. I really wanted to capture the dynamic between mother and daughter and give the real sense of who Adrienne was right off the bat.
It was also vitally important to me for Adrienne to not be just a white princess with a black face. The kinky curly hair and the hair brushing ritual were vital for this scene to me. These are the sorts of experiences that make us who we are. Also, naturally there’s a split between how Adrienne sees herself in this dialog and what we are actually seeing, as her mother coddles her.
