Wow! If the cover wasn’t enough to get your blood pumping, as promised, Mignola and company deliver the goods in a major way with the 4th issue of B.P.R.D.: Vampire. This issue is a powerhouse that smacks you upside the head, and with unwavering preponderance, keeps the blows coming. Whereas the first two issues seemed a bit too bogged down with plot development, and backstory, this issue is one huge astonishingly explosive battle, that by its end, leaves you gasping for more.
Fans of agent Anders will not be disappointed as his character rivals even Hellboy in attitude, and badassness! Reaching new levels of character development, Anders’s torment is compelling as it seethes with tremendous emotional fury, forcing him to embrace the power of the very creatures he seeks to destroy.
Mignola’s vampires continue to wow with truly inventive, re-imagined abilities that are horrifying, and leave other creator’s vampires limp by comparison. Even when they’re not visible, their dominating presence is felt, and with Hecate still lurking in the shadows like a great puppeteer, their full potential still remains to be revealed.
As always Gabriel Bá and Fábio Moon’s brooding art continues to excel, as it adds atmospheric weight and tension to the series with lush boldness. The action is heavy in this issue and they rise to the challenge. Explosions and monsters alike, burst from the pages with magnificent brilliance, and startling energy.
Hands down, my favorite issue this month, and the best B.P.R.D. storyline in a a long while. I simply can’t recommend this one enough. The anticipation for the concluding issue is huge, and it can’t get here fast enough!
