It was the day after X-Mas when I swore off of Diamond Previews. I told the world that I was giving up the habit. And while I still talk to my old friends and I have looked at the food, I have not strayed from my diet. I am not preordering any books, indie or not from Diamond Previews. There are just too many available options in this modern internet world for me to continue supporting this indirect method of distribution. One of which, is buying straight from the publisher.
A few days after giving up the junkie food, I placed my first publisher-direct order and it was with Alterna Comics, a company that has become a new favorite in my book. Well, last night, the books were waiting for me when I got home from the day job and it was better than X-mas. Not only did I get two wonderful looking volumes of American Terror but Alterna Comics also dropped me a couple fancy looking trading cards that served s marketing to some of their other properties – awesome. Alterna Comics was prompt and professional in their delivery of my books. It would be hard to ask for more.
Now, I haven’t read American Terror yet but so far Alterna Comics has done a great job of proving themselves not only in their quick delivery of the books I ordered but also in some of their other titles that I’ve read: Blood for Stone and The End is Totally Nigh. I totally get that buying a relatively unknown commodity from a small publisher can be a dark and scary path. But Alterna Comics also provides digital versions and previews of their books on their site so it’s really easy to give them a cheap or free chance in an effort to support publishers with new ideas and big aspirations.
